HCG Weight Loss: Dr. Simeons’ Protocol

About 4 years ago, patients began asking me to prescribe HCG (“human chorionic gonadotropin”) for weight loss. When they told me about the 500-calorie diet, I laughed and said “no way”. Interestingly, after attending a medical conference, I ran int o a colleague who I admire, and we were trading info on promising new therapies. When she told me she had done HCG and now uses it in her practice, I was flabbergasted. She then asked me if I had read Dr. Simeons’ Manuscript; admittedly, I had not. I promptly pulled his manuscript off my shelf, which a patient had previously given to me, and I was humbled; Dr. Simeons’ manuscript was brilliant and made complete sense.


“Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity”, by Dr. Simeons, was written decades ago when obesity was rarely seen. Today obesity is an epidemic disease, and we are finding more and more its pivotal role in creating a host of chronic illnesses. After reading this book, I decided to take my most weight loss resistant clients and together we embarked on an experiment. As we followed Simeons’ protocol using injectable medication, it was mind-blowing how fat was being utilized for calories, and pounds and inches were literally melting away. The market suddenly experienced a shortage of HCG medication, so we went to the commercially available HCG, but it did not work the same way, as the stability and quality of the HCG protein is questionable. Because of all the problems with medication on the internet, and especially because of the varying quality of HCG commercially available, the FDA is pushing to make HCG a controlled substance, and rightfully so. HCG increases both testosterone and growth hormone, which are controlled substances and need a doctor’s supervision.


Why is the HCG protocol so different? HCG in combination with a specific diet helps to reset an endocrine gland called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus plays an intricate role with the pituitary gland, which can affect virtually the entire endocrine “hormone” system. HCG protocol requires dedication and discipline. To maintain weight loss, the protocol must be done exactingly, but the benefits speak for themselves: weight loss, change in body composition, decreased appetite, better hormone balance, and improved adrenal function.
